On June 25, 2020, the moment had arrived! The L 20 took to the skies for the first time! At 6:19 p.m., the aircraft took off from Vienna Neustadt West (LOXN) for its maiden flight!
Powered by an original Daimler F7502 engine, which was overhauled and restored to a flight-ready powerhouse of 20 hp in approximately 1,300 hours of work. After several hours on the test bench, Austro Control approved the engine for flight testing.
In early 2016, the authorities granted the building permit for the construction of the Klemm, and after approximately 5,600 hours of work and 800 hours of research, this L 20 was created and reflects the delivery condition that most aircraft had when they left the factory. The customer's (Ferdinand Porsche Erlebniswelten fahr(T)raum) requirement to build it as close to the original as possible was met. This meant that the list of compromises was kept very short. Modern certified glue, additional engine monitoring instruments, and a tire size with a 4 cm larger diameter are the most significant changes to the original!
During the 20-minute maiden flight, we were able to capture some impressions of an aircraft from a bygone era that was an exciting time for civil aviation. We would like to share these images here. We will also soon be publishing images from the recent test flight with the Hansa Brandenburg C1, which were taken during altitude testing.
